Angeline The Baker

The first time I heard "Angeline the Baker" was as a fiddle tune performed by Kenny Baker. Since that time it has been recorded many times in all sorts of arrangements.

My arrangement for the banjo in the key of D is a simple one but one that I think brings out the engaging character of the melody. I use an alternating pattern for much of the first section. This gives a sort of cadence of an old time banjo style. One element that I have added, again in the A section, that has appeal for me is the open B string which is sounded several times. The use of the sixth tone (B in the Key of D) gives and even softer and down home sound.
The B section has an interesting rhythmic twist that is highlighted by the sounding of the low D string. Hope you enjoy your romp through my version of "Angeline the Baker."
