Year of Jubilo

by Wayne Shrubsall

This is one of the most popular tunes of the Civil War. Called Kingdom Come but better known as Year of Jubilo, it was written by Henry C. Work in 1862. You have probably heard in the background of many cartoons. It is in the key of D and is played without a capo. When playing in D I almost always capo the fifth string to A. This tune is featured on the CD "Old Friends" that I recorded with my old friend Wayne Shrubsall.

[Editor's note: Alan Munde's clawhammer version can be found in the Novemebr 2005 issue of BanjoSessions™. The CD of three finger and clawhammer banjo duets and tab books can be found at http://AlanMunde.com or from Alan at P.O. Box 8240, Levelland TX 79338 ]

Wayne Shrubsall - Wayne was the first banjo player to have a regular tab column. He has performed with Bill Monroe, Byron Berline, The High Plains Tradition, Peter Feldman, Chubby Wise, Clyde Moody and the Country Gazette among others.
